VOCI SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS 2016-2017

 

Jessica Crowell is pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Malone University. She studies with Cynthia Wohlschlager. Jessica is the music and youth director at First Christian Church in Massillon and is a staff member of the All Ohio State Fair Youth Choir Staff. She has performed several roles in Malone Opera Theater productions and recently performed Papagena in the “Magic Flute” with Opera Circle Cleveland. Jessica will graduate in December of 2016 and intends to pursue a masters in vocal performance.

 

 


 

Lauren Corcoran is a resident of Akron, OH and is pursuing a Master of Music degree at the University of Akron. She currently studies with Dr. Laurie Lashbrook. Last year Lauren participated in a masterclass with Renee Flemming (International Opera Singer) through the Cleveland Orchestra Education Program. This year, Lauren won first place at the Ohio NATS Competition (National Association of Teachers of Singing), second place at the Great Lakes Regional NATS Competition, and second place at the Tuesday Musical Association Scholarship Competition.

 

 


 

 

Sammy Kay Smith won the adult division of the 2016 Scholarship Auditions. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications and currently is the Director of the Spring Hill Historic Home in Massillon Ohio. Sammy Kay studies with Amy Yekel and has been an active member of the Voices of Canton.

 

 


 

 

Natalie James, won the high school division of the 2016 Scholarship Auditions as well as previous years. She is also a student of Amy Yekel. She sings with the Voices of Canton as well as the Glen Oak chorale. Natalie enjoys performing in local productions with North Canton Playhouse and the Players Guild. In 2012, she won the Canton Idol in her age group. Natalie is a junior homeschooled student and enjoys competing in vocal competitions.

 

 


 

 

Olivia Beal is a senior at Firestone High School and has been very active in the choral program. She will be attending Baldwin Wallace next year majoring in Vocal Performance and Music Therapy. This spring she placed second in a NATS competition and was a featured soloist with the Akron Symphony in “Akron on Broadway”.

 

 

 


 

 

Dawna Warren will be a sophomore at Baldwin Wallace next year majoring in Vocal Performance and she is currently on the Dean’s List. She is a student of Jim Mismas and has already sung in 4 productions at Baldwin Wallace. Dawna is a Baldwin Wallace Presidential Scholar.
