On Wednesday, November 16th, at the Canton Brewing Company, PJ Chavez and the SingStark! band lead 70 people in a heartfelt performance of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah.

Welcome James Leatherbarrow to the VOCI Board of Trustees

The VOCI Board of Trustees welcomes Dr. James Leatherbarrow, of Stark State College. Mr. Leatherbarrow was born in Devon, England. He has taught music theory, history, and musicianship at Kent State University, Youngstown State University, and the University of Akron. In 2011, he received his Ph.D. in music theory and composition from Kent State University.  Mr. Leatherbarrow is an assistant professor at Stark State College, where he runs the Music Production and Engineering program.

Seniors Sing

Seniors Sing

Tuesday was the first rehearsal in our partnership with the Canton Christian Home, in a new project called Seniors Sing. The project is a new community engagement program that fosters the creation of choirs in assisted living homes and senior centers.  Residents joined together with VOCI choristers for a wonderful time of singing. Accompanist Eleanor, Kear and VOCI member, Joann Smith are excited to be participating with the new choir. The choir will be performing on Wednesday, November 30th at 2:30 PM.

VOCI Scholarship Auditions 2015!

Thrilling! Inspiring! Those are the words that come to mind as I think of the VOCI Scholarship Auditions that were held this past Sunday, May 3rd in Cable Recital Hall at the Cultural Center for the Arts in Canton.

Twenty-eight talented, young singers, representing eleven universities/music schools (Baldwin Wallace, Capital University, Cleveland Institute of Music, College of Wooster, Eastman School of Music, Malone University, Ohio University, University of Akron, University of Dayton, University of Toledo and University of Valley Forge) competed for six scholarships totaling $4,500.

VOCI commissioned choral work for 75th Anniversary Virtual Choir Video

VOCI commissioned a choral work by composer Matthew Morgan of Chicago for a Virtual Choir to commemorate their 75th Anniversary. VOCI chorus member and studio engineer, Nate Lockwood, produced the video which was part of the 75th Anniversary Celebration Concert on October 12th.
